ABOUT THE FIRE PREVENTION BUREAU
 
The Bureau's goal is to assure the life safety of all residents and visitors within Mendham Borough. We are responsible for annual inspections of all properties and businesses as required by the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code and applicable Borough Ordinances. In addition, we also conduct:
  • Certification of smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms and portable fire extinguishers before the resale or re-occupancy of 1 and 2 family homes.
  • Fire Safety Complaint investigations.
  • Fire Safety Permits control and inspections.
  • Plan Review of projects during the zoning/planing phases.  
  • Public Fire Safety Education.  
  • Investigations of Fires & Explosions that occur within the Borough. 
 
GUIDELINES FOR SELLING OR LEASING YOUR HOME 
  • Application for Certificate of Smoke Alarm, Carbon Monoxide Alarm, and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance
    • The New Jersey Uniform Fire Code 5:70-2.3(a) states: “Before any one or two family structure is sold, leased or otherwise made subject to a change of occupancy for residential purposes, the owner shall obtain a Certificate of Smoke Alarm,  Carbon Monoxide Alarm and Portable Fire Extinguisher Compliance (CSACMAPFEC), evidencing compliance with N.J.A.C 5:70-4.19.
    • Completed application must be submitted with fee and can be mailed or dropped of to:
