In Memoriam: Dave Crotsley

Born in Somerset, NJ, to parents Charles Andrew and Sarah (Van Pelt) Crotsley, Dave grew up in Long Valley. He served his country proudly in the Navy. Once discharged, he returned home, married his wife Ruth in 1959, and moved to Mendham, where he has lived ever since.

Dave was very involved in his community, working for Gunther Motors from 1959 to 1968. He went on to work for the Mendham Borough Public Works, where he retired as Superintendent, from 1968 to 2002. He was a past Chief of the Mendham Fire Department, President of the Farmer’s and Sportsman’s Association, a lifetime member of the Pastime Club, a member of the Mendies, and volunteered his time on the Mendham Borough First Aid Squad, as well as at Morristown Memorial Hospital as a volunteer corpsman. Outside of his work and other involvements, Dave was an avid hunter, loved fishing, being outside, and loved to spend time with his family. He was a fan of sports of all kinds, including baseball, football, and amateur boxing, which he partook in as a young man.

David is predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Ruth E. Crotsley, and is survived by his daughter Sandra Stilgenbauer and her husband Richard, brother Lawrence Crotsley, sister Judith Freeborn, grandchildren Bobby (Lindsey) Parish, Roxanne (Chris) Steeples, Melanie Parish, great grandchildren Caleb and Nolan, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 10, from 10 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:30 AM at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham. David will be laid to rest at Hilltop Cemetery in Mendham following services.
