Slow Down, Move Over!

On Monday, March 7, 2016 Trooper Sean Cullen was struck and killed by a vehicle while assisting at the scene of a vehicle fire in Deptford Township.

This tragic incident is a reminder of just how dangerous it is to operate on roadways—which we do more often than not.

Slow Down, Move Over

If you come upon flashing lights on the side of the road, slow down, and if it’s safe, Move Over—away from police, fire crews, EMS and tow truck drivers. If you make the move, others will follow.

The Law

On January 27, 2009, Governor Jon S. Corzine signed into law a bill that requires drivers approaching stationary emergency vehicles, tow trucks and other highway safety vehicles displaying certain flashing lights to move over one lane or, if not safe to move over, then to slow down below the posted speed limit.
